Newcastle United could lose one of their star players in the coming weeks of the transfer window, according to reports – and it’s not Alexander Isak, with suggestions that Ligue 1 side AS Monaco are contemplating a move to sign veteran star Kieran Trippier in the coming weeks.
Newcastle’s sullen transfer window, in which they will have only brought in three first-team players once the signing of AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw is confirmed, has been dominated by the discourse surrounding Isak’s future. The Swede has notified the club that he wishes to leave for Liverpool, though a deal hasn’t happened yet – and with other players failing to leave, an eye has been taken away from other departures.
Report: Monaco ‘Interested’ in Kieran Trippier from Newcastle
However, there may be movement on that front soon. Whilst Isak remains in a black and white shirt, one other star could be on his way out of the club – with the report by Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie stating that Monaco are interested in signing Trippier from the Magpies. The Ligue 1 giants are thought to be weighing up an approach to Newcastle for the 34-year-old star as they prepare for Champions League football next season.
Trippier, who has been one of the stalwarts and fan favourites in Newcastle’s new Saudi-led era, only has one year left on his £120,000-a-week contract in the north-east, and having lost his starting role to youngster Tino Livramento, Monaco have now come forward with their interest.
However, Newcastle don’t want to lose the England international, as he is a ‘key player’ for Eddie Howe, but there has been interest in the Three Lions hero in the past and a rule may not be ruled out with the window continuing to tick down into its final few days.
