RB Leipzig and Liverpool FC officially confirmed the premature termination of Fabio Carvalho’s season-long loan stint on Sunday evening.

Carvalho loaned to Leipzig for one year without purchase option

Following reports that the player’s parent club was dissatisfied with his lack of playing time at RB Leipzig, Liverpool FC have officially cancelled the arrangement that sent Portuguese attacker Fabio Carvalho to the German Red Bulls for the season. Carvalho heads back to the Merseyside club having not featured much for Leipzig over the course of half a season. Early reports suggest that Liverpool will loan the player out again.

RB sporting director Rouven Schröder – who did seek to downplay reports that the Bundesliga side would allow Carvalho to depart – lamented the loss of a “very talented player” while also noting that “the competitive situation within our team left him with little prospectives. Carvalho made 15 competitive appearances (three starts) with Leipzig, yet wasn’t able to get his name on the scoresheet.

“Both sides were ultimately hoping for much more,” Schröder’s statement reads, “He desires playing time that we cannot guarantee him. After several discussions over the past few days, we’ve come to a collective decision as a sporting management team that the loan should be ended prematurely.”
