At long last, Austrian international Florian Grillitsch has followed through with the necessary negotiations and signed a professional footballing contract. After numerous deals fell through over the course of the offseason, the Austrian defensive midfielder/center-halve will play for Ajax Amsterdam this year, having signed a one-year-contract on Tuesday. Ajax reports that they have a two-year extension option.
Grillitsch thus finally departs the Bundesliga after an illustrious seven-year-career with SV Werder Bremen and TSG 1889 Hoffenheim. The Austrian international came up through the Bremen youth ranks and has been playing in the Bundesrepublik since 2013. The now 27-year-old made a total of 178 top flight appearances, netting 12 goals across all competitions for his two clubs.
