In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Manu’s Game of the Week: Freiburg vs Union Berlin
My match of the week is Freiburg against Union Berlin. A game between the two fairytale teams of German football. Union, however, have struggled a bit in recent weeks and it feels like they are running on fumes ahead of the World Cup. Freiburg too are a bit jaded but overall this should be a fascinating game that is evenly balanced. A perfect way to round up the matchday.
Manu’s Predictions:
- Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-3 Borussia Dortmund
- Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Stuttgart
- Hoffenheim 1-2 Wolfsburg
- Augsburg 1-1 Bochum
- Hertha Berlin 2-0 FC Köln
- Werder Bremen 0-3 RB Leipzig
- Schalke 0-6 Bayern Munich
- Mainz 0-3 Eintracht Frankfurt
- Freiburg 1-1 Union Berlin
Stefan’s Game of the Week: Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Borussia Dortmund
My game of the week has to be the Borussia derby on Friday night. Although some of Dortmund’s stars may now be focusing entirely on the upcoming World Cup, Edin Terzic knows a win against Gladbach could make all the difference during the long winter break. A win should see Dortmund move back into the comfort of the top four, but anything else would likely see them stay in sixth. And that could lead to all sorts of discontent in and around the club over the coming months.
Stefan’s Predictions:
- Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-2 Borussia Dortmund
- Augsburg 2-2 Bochum
- Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 Stuttgart
- Hertha Berlin 2-0 FC Köln
- Hoffenheim 1-3 Wolfsburg
- Werder Bremen 0-2 RB Leipzig
- Schalke 0-4 Bayern Munich
- Mainz 0-2 Eintracht Frankfurt
- Freiburg 1-1 Union Berlin
Scores after MD14: Manu – 80, Stefan – 64.
