Brentford have submitted a new offer for Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson, according to the Daily Mail. The Bees will not give up in their pursuit of the Welsh star.
After seeing their first two bids rejected, there was a brief period where it seemed they had moved on.
However, they have returned with a third offer for the 22-year-old attacker as we approach the final days of the transfer market.
Brentford have reentered the race for the versatile forward as Tottenham Hotspur ramped up negotiations.
Spurs are interested in bolstering Ange Postecoglou’s squad with the addition of Johnson. The reports say they lead the race for his signature, but Brentford will go toe-to-toe with them.
Brentford’s last offer was around £30 million, but their latest offer is closer to £40 million. Forest and Tottenham are negotiating, and Spurs will make their formal bid later this week.
If Spurs and Brentford strike a deal with Forest for Johnson, he will likely choose the prospect of playing under Postecoglou, who has earned rave reviews since he arrived in North London this summer.
After losing pivotal figures in attack, both sides must reinforce their forward lines this summer.
Brentford have missed the massive presence of Ivan Toney following his eight-month ban for breaching the FA’s betting rules.
Toney’s 20 goals and four assists (12 big chances created) played a crucial role in Brentford’s excellent campaign last season.
However, he will not return to the pitch until January, and even then, there are no guarantees he will stay at the club, with top Premier League clubs fighting for his signature.

As for Tottenham, they sold Harry Kane to Bayern Munich and need to add firepower. They have relied on Richarlison to lead the line, but he is yet to open his Premier League account.
It remains to be seen if Forest will accept Brentford’s new bid and how it will affect talks with Spurs. The Tricky Trees want close to £50 million and will hope for a bidding war between the London outfits.
