Borussia Dortmund officially confirmed Julian Brandt’s early contract extension early Tuesday afternoon.

Julian Brandt’s reported upon contract extension is now a done deal. The resurgent German attacker receives a new deal good through 2026. Enjoying by far his best year with die Schwarzleben since joining from Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the summer of 2019, it’s safe to assume that the 26-year-old has received a hefty pay raise.

Brandt’s estimated market worth is back up to €40 million, still shy of the €50 million of his early BVB days, but crucially up from a nadir of €20 million in September of 2021. BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl acknowledged Brandt’s recent form recovery in a statement accompanying the signing.

“Julian has improved enormously over the past year,” Kehl said, “He’s a valuable part of our squad and a central component to our medium-term squad-planning. He regularly sets up goals and scores them himself.”

Kehl labelled the signing “the first step in a step-by-step process”, strongly insinuating that more confirmed signings were to come. It has been reported that Kehl and the administrative team have come to terms with captain Marco Reus on a one-year-extension to be confirmed soon.

It was also reported today that veteran Mats Hummels has been tendered a similar offer to that of Reus. Hummels, like Reus, will reportedly have to accept a pay cut, but will still be well compensated to play another year for the Westphalians.

Brandt’s new deal is good through 2026.
