Last week, boxing icon Manny Pacquiao announced that he would be returning to the squared circle for the first time in almost four years. The Filipino legend will face Mario Barrios on the 19th of July in Las Vegas with the WBC welterweight title on the line, and the 46-year-old is reuniting with his coach, Freddie Roach, for an attempt at adding yet another world title to his already iconic resume.
Although the announcement of Pacquiao’s boxing return has quite a lot of fans around the world concerned, as he is 46 years old and a huge underdog, there is naturally a lot of hype around his return, and although he hasn’t fought in a professional bout in almost four years and is coming up against a tough opponent, there are quite a lot of people out there who are backing ‘PacMan’ to defeat Barrios, including his fellow boxing icon Roy Jones Jr.
Jones Jr recently spoke to Prime Casino about Pacquiao’s return, and although he did voice some concerns, he is backing him to defeat Barrios and win the WBC welterweight title.

Roy Jones Jr Backs Manny Pacquiao to Defeat Mario Barrios and Become World Champion Again
Jones Jr has praised Pacquiao for still wanting to compete at 46 years old
Although Manny Pacquiao is 46 years old and hasn’t stepped foot inside the squared circle in almost four years, Roy Jones Jr is backing the Filipino to make a successful return to boxing against Mario Barios this summer and become a world champion once again. During a recent interview with Prime Casino, Jones Jr praised ‘PacMan’ for the shape he can still get into at the age of 46, but also voiced concerns about his age, and even compared Pacquiao’s return to what Mike Tyson went through before he fought Jake Paul.
Jones Jr said the following to Prime Casino:
“There’s people that are 26 who can’t hardly go one round, and you’re doing it at 46, double their age. You got to take your hat off to Manny. I give Manny a chance, you always gotta give him a chance. I’m backing him.
It’s dangerous if you’re 46 in the ring. You could have a stroke tomorrow. (Mike) Tyson almost died before he fought Jake Paul, that wasn’t from fighting. Life is dangerous every day.”
For most, having a successful comeback to professional boxing at the age of 46 after such a long layoff is almost an impossibility, however, when it’s an icon like Pacquiao pursuing it, anything is possible because he is just so good.
Roy Jones Jr Believes Wladimir Klitschko Can Make a Successful Return to Boxing
Klitschko is reportedly planning to make a comeback in 2025 at the age of 49
From one boxing icon to another, just like Manny Pacquiao, heavyweight legend Wladimir Klitschko is reportedly plotting a return to the squared circle in 2025. According to multiple reputable sources, the Ukrainian is seeking a return to boxing this year and was recently in negotiations to face undefeated German fighter Agit Kabayel. Kabayel recently revealed that he was given a lucrative offer to face Klitschko, but instead he seems focused on becoming a world champion instead of facing ‘Doctor Steelhammer.’
Although Klitschko is almost 50 years old and hasn’t fought since 2017, Roy Jones Jr believes that the Ukrainian has what it takes to make a successful return to boxing, as “for heavyweights it is a little easier to make a comeback.”
Jones Jr said the following to Prime Casino:
Wladimir Klitschko is big enough to do anything. See, what people don’t realise is that for heavyweights it is a little easier to make a comeback. When you’re that big and you do have power and IQ-wise, Klitschko to me is a little more advanced than Tyson Fury. Power-wise, he’s definitely more advanced than Fury.
But the chin is always gonna be a problem for Klitschko. You know that was one of his weaknesses in his prime, if you could get to the chin, you could get him.
Just like Pacquiao’s return, a successful return to boxing after an almost decade-long hiatus seems an impossibility, but Klitschko is an all-time great and has kept himself in great shape since his retirement, so he could encounter success in his return.
