SportBild reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach are interested in Schalke’s Tom Krauß who is currently on loan from RB Leipzig.
Gladbach’s pursuit of the 21-year-old will depend on if Schalke gets relegated or not. In Schalke’s loan agreement with Leipzig, there is an obligation to buy of €3m if Schalke stay up. Mainz and unnamed English clubs are also interested in Krauß
If Schalke are relegated, Krauß will return to Leipzig however they have no future plans for the 21-year-old and will let him leave in the summer. This would allow Gladbach to negotiate a fee with Leipzig for Krauß. Gladbach had sent scouts to watch the midfielder in Schalke’s 5-2 win against Hertha Berlin two weeks ago however, he came off of the bench.
This signing could likely be one of the options to replace Manu Koné. The Frenchman could potentially be sold in the summer as Gladbach needs the money to fund their rebuild with the likes of Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini and Lars Stindl all leaving when their contracts expire.
