Borussia Dortmund are working on extending Gregor Kobel’s contract at the club, according to Ruhr Nachrichten.
The 25-year-old Swiss international proved to be a vital player for BVB last season. His impressive displays gathered the interest of clubs from around Europe including Manchester United and Chelsea. However, Dortmund bosses were always adamant that the Kobel wasn’t going anywhere.
What’s more, with the BVB captaincy up for grabs, the goalkeeper is considered one of the top candidates for the armband.
Negotiations have been ongoing for some time and an agreement is expected to be reached shortly. Currently tied with Dortmund until 2026, Kobel can expect a big increase in his salaries thanks to this new deal.
Kobel was one of Dortmund’s standout players last season and is one of the reasons behind their mid-season turnaround. The 25-year-old played 33 times for Dortmund last campaign and kept 14 clean sheets.
