David Ornstein of the Athletic reports that Aston Villa have made a bid for Borussia Dortmund winger Donyell Malen, as the Dutch international looks to leave the club.
The bid is said to be worth €18m, which is below Dortmund’s valuation of the 25-year-old, but negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing. The Premier League side wants to add a versatile attacking option to their ranks.
It is widely known that Malen wishes to leave Dortmund sooner rather than later. However, Malen’s problem is that his expectations do not match his performances. Apart from a hot streak at the end of the 2022-23 season, the forward has never really given a reason why he deserves a move to a big club.
This season, Malen has scored five times in 20 games for Dortmund as they currently sit sixth in the Bundesliga.
The positive for Dortmund is that a sale of Malen could open the door for them to enter the market to sign much-needed reinforcements in defence and look to improve the team overall. So far this season, they have looked way off the pace.
