According to Sport Bild, Borussia Dortmund are now interested in in-from VfB Stuttgart striker Sehrou Guirassy but will likely have to fight off clubs from around Europe.
Before Dortmund can even think of signing Guirassy some players have to leave, Dortmund currently have three strikers, Niclas Füllkrug, Sebastien Haller and Youssoufa Moukoko. Haller’s form has dramatically decreased this season and there is a lack of belief at Dortmund that he can return to his very best.
Dortmund will likely have to pay a fee of around €20m for Guirassy as the value of the release clause is dependent on the buyer’s country. Dortmund will also be unable to compete when it comes to wages if clubs from England show interest in the 27-year-old. Guirassy wants to sign a contract where he can earn the most money possible, although at Dortmund he would be able to double his current Stuttgart salary.
Overall, this move does not make any sense for either party. As mentioned Dortmund already have several strikers, with Füllkrug and Haller having a similar profile to Guirassy so signing the 27-year-old just because he is in form does not make any sense.
While from the player’s side, a move to Dortmund also makes no sense as he would be leaving a team that is playing significantly better football, the environment is much better and a move abroad would allow him to achieve his dream of playing in the Premier League.
