As reported via Bild, Borussia Dortmund are monitoring Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres.
During the summer, the 25-year-old completed a transfer to the Portuguese club after his 21-goal haul fired Coventry City to the Championship play-off final, where they were narrowly beaten on penalties by Luton Town. With six goals so far this campaign, the Swedish striker has adapted well to the Portuguese top flight, catching the eye of Die Schwarzgelben.
However, a move to the Bundesliga is currently considered unlikely due to Dortmund’s striker situation. With Sebastian Haller, Youssoufa Moukoko, and Niclas Füllkrug all currently vying for a place in Edin Terzić’s side, there is little need for further reinforcement.
Recently, Füllkrug has established himself as Germnay’s starting striker, and due to Haller’s poor form since the end of last season, the former Werder Bremen striker will look to consolidate his place in the Dortmund side. As well as this, Moukoko has struggled to fit into Terzić’s system, despite being a pivotal player for the German under-21 side.
Therefore, the summer of 2024 could see BvB part ways with Haller and Moukoko and target the signing of Gyökeres. Nevertheless, the Swede will not come cheap. A €100m release clause has been implemented into his contract, meaning that Dortmund will have to pay considerably more than the €20m Coventry received for his services.
