Florian Plettenberg reports that Manchester City midfielder James McAtee has chosen to sign for Nottingham Forest after agreeing a long-term contract with the Europa League-bound Reds. However, an agreement still needs to be reached between the clubs over the transfer fee.
Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt had all shown interest in the 22-year-old, who impressed this summer as captain of England’s Under-21 European Championship-winning side, defeating Germany in the final.
Dortmund may now redirect their attention back to Carney Chukwuemeka, whom they have been relentlessly pursuing since the Englishman’s initial loan deal expired after the Club World Cup.
Plettenberg also reported this afternoon that Leipzig are considering bringing Christopher Nkunku back to the club, with funds available from the sale of Benjamin Sesko and the potential departure of Xavi Simons.
It remains to be seen whether Frankfurt will enter the market for an alternative to McAtee, though they too have money to spend following Hugo Ekitike’s move to Liverpool.
