According to Bochum boss Patrick Fabian, the club’s contract talks with Takuma Asano have not broken down.

VfL Bochum managing director for sport Patrick Fabian has denied a recent Bild report claiming that Takuma Asano has decided against extending his contract with the club beyond the summer.
“This report is not correct in its form. Nobody here at VfL Bochum has ‘missed out’ on anything,” Fabian told Tief im Westen – Das VfL-Magazin.
“Takuma is an important player for us who we would like to keep beyond the end of the season. But a contract extension is not a one-way street. There are different interests and at least two parties. We’ll keep trying and have not received any rejection from Takuma.”
With the forward currently with Japan at the Asian Cup, a final decision is not in sight.
“We have been talking to Takuma about his sporting future for almost a year. However, the player has signaled to us that he is not yet ready to enter into concrete negotiations about a new contract,” Fabian said.
According to Bild, Borussia Mönchengladbach are among several Bundesliga clubs keeping an eye on Asano.
