Hertha BSC midfielder Suat Serdar believes the appointment of Sandro Schwarz as head coach could help him to show his best at the German capital club.

Although he featured in the majority of Hertha’s games through last season, Serdar wasn’t satisfied with his first season in Berlin.

“A lot happened last season. The year was a new experience for me. I’m sure things will get better now,” he told Kicker and added:

“Berlin hasn’t even seen the real Serdar yet.”

Serdar highlighted a change of position as a factor in his struggles.

“Playing out of position was tough. I struggled with the change of coach and position change to the wing,” said the central midfielder, who mostly played as a winger after Pal Dardai was sacked.

Dardai was replaced by Tayfun Korkut, who only lasted a few months before Felix Magath was put in charge instead. Serdar is now looking forward to playing under Sandro Schwarz, his former coach at Mainz, again.

“We now have a coach, who – like me – believes No. 8 is my best position. I’m very happy about that,” said the midfielder.
