Benjamin Pavard has changed his stance on his future with Bayern Munich, stating his desire to continue with the German giants.
The French defender previously stated that he was open to leaving Allianz Arena for a new challenge but now has a change of heart.
Pavard has been a subject of speculation in recent months, with Inter Milan trying to sign him on the deadline day of the January transfer window. In addition, Barcelona have been following him for a long time while the defender also revealed his desire to represent the Catalan giants.
However, he has put an end to the rumours by stating that he had never requested Bayern for an exit while declaring his commitment to the Bundesliga champions.
“I’m not the type to leave midway through the season,” Pavard told Sport 1 (h/t Sempreinter).
“My goal was definitely always to stay at Bayern.
“I never said that I wanted to leave.”
“I know very well that I’m at a top club, and whether it’s the team, the coaching staff, the physios, the atmosphere here is great.”
“I feel very comfortable here. I like the club and the fans, and I hope we can do something great this season.”
Pavard’s comments will prove to be a huge setback for Inter, who have identified him as one of the top defensive targets for the summer as a replacement for Paris Saint-Germain-bound Milan Skriniar.
Meanwhile, Barca may have to look for alternatives elsewhere as Pavard’s name tops their summer shopping list.
The 26-year-old’s contract expires in the summer of 2024, and Bayern are preparing an extension offer as Julian Nagelsmann considers him integral to his plans.
