Germany’s main sporting tabloid – courtesy of some internal sleuthing – claims that Sheraldo Becker’s current deal with Champions’ League aspirants 1. FC Union Berlin only runs through the end of next season.

When 1. FC Union Berlin attacker Sheraldo Becker signed a contract extension last summer, it was reported at the time that the 28-year-old’s deal would run through the end of the 2024/25 campaign. This, according to Germany’s main sporting tabloid, is false. Union are generally among the smaller German clubs who can keep the details of their player contracts out of the press. Germany’s “Sport Bild” claims to have discovered that Becker’s deal is actually only active through the end of next season.
If true, this revelation could have significant ramifications for the Dutch Suriname’s future. Becker has already repeatedly been linked with a move away from Köpenick. With an estimated market worth of €15 million, the talismanic attacker is the most valuable player in the FCU squad. Die Eisernen may wish to cash in on him this summer or next winter rather than lose him on a free transfer after the 2023/24 campaign concludes.
Becker’s league production numbers (one goal and two assists) have tapered off a bit since the turn of the calendar year. In the first 15 matchdays of the season, Becker scored seven goals and supplied three assists for Urs Fischer’s squad. He remains the team’s leading scorer and has started all but one of Union’s 42 fixtures across all competitions in the current cycle.
