Amid the potential departures of two center backs and the search for a new defensive-minded player for the six-slot, German giants FC Bayern München are preparing to promote a player capable of playing at both positions from their youth ranks. Frank Linkesch of Germany’s Kicker Magazine reports that 18-year-old Tarek Buchmann will sign a new three-year professional contract this week.
Buchmann is widely considered – along with Arjion Ibrahimovic and Paul Wanner – to be among the top talents in the FCB developmental pipeline. Linkesch writes that the Bavarians are eager to get the teenager signed on a professional deal so that he may spend the summer working with head-coach Thomas Tuchel’s professionals.
At the very least, Buchmann should spend the entirely of next season as a regular with FCB II. Linkesch nevertheless notes that one of the primary reasons why Buchmann is being promoted concerns his similarities in playing style to another former Tuchel protégée Julian Weigl. Tuchel fast-tracked Weigl to the pros during his time with Dortmund.
