Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he’s considering giving Dayot Upamecano a rest against Heidenheim on Saturday.
The French centre-back returned from a muscle injury in time for last week’s 4-0 win over Borussia Dortmund and also started in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Galatasaray.
And speaking after the Galatasaray game, Tuchel admitted he’s concerned Upamecano could suffer a setback if he’s overworked.
“The doctors made it clear that he isn’t ready to play every 3 days. Every time he sprinted in the second half, my heart almost skipped a beat. It was too early for him, but he played really well,” Tuchel told reporters after the win over Galatsaray, adding that he a late decision will be made on Upamecano’s involvement against Heidenheim.
“Will he play against Heidenheim? I can’t say yet. We have to wait until Friday or Saturday to see how tired the muscle is, and how tired the player is.”
