Bayern Munich’s Yann Sommer bid rejected

Borussia Mönchengladbach have rejected Bayern Munich’s latest offer of €8m plus €1m in bonuses for Yann Sommer, almost doubling their initial offer, according to Sky Germany.

Sommer has already reached a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich to sign a contract until 2025, but the Rekordmeister must reach an agreement with Die Fohlen if they are to sign the Swiss goalkeeper this month.

The 34-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Borussia Mönchengladbach, who are lining up Montpellier’s Jonas Omlin (29) as a replacement, but are yet to make an official approach.

It was reported on Monday that this would be a decisive week for Bayern Munich and Sommer. But Mönchengladbach are demanding more than Bayern’s opening offer given that Omlin would cost a reported €8m to prise him away from France.

This also comes after Stefan Backs, agent of Alexander Nübel, confirmed that his client would remain at AS Monaco despite interest from Bayern Munich to end the player’s loan prematurely.

Bayern Munich play RB Leipzig when the Bundesliga resumes on Friday night but as of yet, it’s unclear as to whether a replacement for Manuel Neuer, who is out for the remainder of the season with a broken leg, will be signed.
