Sky Germany reports that Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha’s muscular injury is worse than first thought and he is set to miss the rest of the year.
Bayern announced earlier today that the Portuguese international suffered an abductor injury while on international duty and will miss the next few weeks. However, upon diagnosis in Munich, the injury is worse than Bayern first thought and he will miss the remainder of the year.
Palhinha only joined Bayern in the summer, but since his arrival from Fulham, he has struggled to assert himself at the Allianz Arena as head coach Vincent Kompany has preferred other solutions in midfield.
The midfielder was originally set to miss the coming weeks which include big games against PSG in the Champions League, Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB Pokal.
The boost for Bayern is that midfielder Aleksander Pavlovic has made a return to team training recently, meaning he is not far off a return to the starting 11. Bayern also have Leon Goretzka who has featured more frequently in games in recent weeks.
