Speaking to Bayern TV (via kicker) after their final pre-season friendly, Bayern Munich winger Lennart Karl has spoken about his desire to play in the Bundesliga.
The 17-year-old is one of the winners of pre-season for Bayern as he has impressed and scored in both friendlies against Tottenham and Grasshoppers.
Bayern begin the new season on Saturday against VfB Stuttgart in the Super Cup.
On his performance in the 2-1 win against the Zurich-based side, Karl said:
“I can showcase my strengths and work on my weaknesses. Everything went well again today – the goal, the assist, and overall it was a very, very good game.”
Karl recently extended his contract at the Rekordmeister and is expected to be the backup to Michael Olise this season. When asked about his goal for this season, the winger commented:
“I’d be happy to play in Bundesliga matches or even bigger games. Everything went well in the friendlies, but now I want to get playing time in the Supercup against Stuttgart or in the Bundesliga. I’m working very hard for that, and I hope it works out.”
The 17-year-old may not be the only youth player to be given a chance in the Bayern first team this season. Wisdom Mike, who also extended his contract at the same time as Karl, could be given a bigger role, as could Swedish striker Jonah Kusi-Asare.
