Bayern Munich monitoring Lille striker Jonathan David

Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on Lille striker Jonathan David ahead of a potential move in the summer, reports German journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Bavarians have scouted the Canadian striker, who has been in a rich vein of form this season, scoring 20 goals in Ligue 1 – which makes him the league’s joint-highest scorer alongside Kylian Mbappe.

The 23-year-old is widely expected to leave Lille this summer, with manager Paulo Fonseca confirming earlier that it would be difficult to keep hold of the Canadian youngster.

Several clubs in Europe are hot on the trail of David, who will cost around €65 million.

Bayern’s chief scout Markus Pilawa has a good report on David, but the interest is said to be not concrete at this stage.

The Bavarians’ executives are planning for a meeting with manager Thomas Tuchel next week to sort out the transfer targets for the summer.

A striker is a priority as Bayern have been left with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as the only reliable option, while he has also struggled with injuries this season.

Teenage prodigy Mathys Tel has shown flashes of brilliance, but the Bundesliga champions are planning to sign a top-quality striker in the summer.

Victor Osimhen’s rumours have picked up the pace in recent weeks, with the Napoli striker reportedly topping Bayern’s wishlist.

The Bavarians are unfazed by his €100m price tag, while the Nigerian centre-forward is also willing to join the German giants on the back of a stellar season with the Partenopei.

Besides, Bayern have also shortlisted Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos as potential summer targets.
