Bayern Munich have joined the race for Chelsea star Kai Havertz, reports Florian Plettenberg.
Arsenal were seemingly leading the race for the German forward, but Bayern are now looking to throw a spanner in the works.
Bayern have directed their attention towards Havertz after striking off Randal Kolo Muani and Victor Osimhen from their list of potential striker targets.
Both players would cost above €100 million, putting them beyond Bayern’s reach.
Havertz’s best period in an otherwise disappointing Chelsea spell came under current Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel, who is pushing for a possible reunion.
Under the tutelage of Tuchel, Havertz played a pivotal role in the Blues’ Champions League triumph in 2020/21, scoring the decisive goal in the final against Manchester City.
The German boss believes the 24-year-old can be ideal for his project at the Allianz Arena as he offers flexibility by playing several forward roles.
Chelsea, who are looking to recover from an abysmal season, are open to selling the former Bayer Leverkusen star as part of a major overhaul.
Bayern may need to spend around £75 million to secure his services, a figure which could see him become the club’s record transfer.
However, it is being reported that the Gunners are frontrunners, while Havertz has also given the green light for a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Meanwhile, Bayern are on the brink of reaching an agreement with Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae over a summer move.
Bayern have also secured the free transfer of Raphael Guerreiro from arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund.
