Both Sport Bild and TZ München report that Bayern Munich have Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi on their shortlist for January.
Internally, Bayern views Zubimendi as an intelligent possession-style defensive midfielder who can be seen as somewhat of a strategist. The 24-year-old currently has a contract at Sociedad until 2027, a club where he has come through the academy.
However, heading into the January transfer window Bayern still view centre-back as a priority position as in recent weeks the lack of depth in that position has been shown with injury to Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt.
It is clear that in the summer, Bayern were not able to fully build the squad that coach Thomas Tuchel wanted as they club faced a drawn-out saga when signing Harry Kane. The lack of strength in midfield and defence has been shown at points this season despite the team currently being unbeaten in the Bundesliga.
