Bayern Munich will compete with Manchester United to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.
After signing Casemiro from Real Madrid for €72 million plus variables, Erik ten Hag believes that the Dutchman is the missing piece to complete United’s midfield.
However, United and Barcelona are yet to agree on a transfer fee as the Catalan side are sticking firm to their €80 million asking price.
It appears as though Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign De Jong as well. They are offering Barcelona a season-long loan deal, with the option to buy the 25-year-old permanently. This kind of agreement would not be unfamiliar territory for both sides as they had a similar deal in place for the transfer of Philippe Coutinho a couple of years ago.
The arrangement could see the Bavarian outfit covering the midfielder’s wages, which would allow Barcelona to have the budget necessary to register Jules Koundé in accordance with La Liga regulations.
