Bayern Munich and Chelsea cool interest in Marcus Thuram

Chelsea and Bayern Munich are no longer pursuing their interest in Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Marcus Thuram, according to Sky Germany correspondent Florian Plettenberg.

The Blues were considering a move for the striker during the January transfer window. They have now cooled that interest in the player.

Chelsea have since signed Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke to join Raheem Sterling. They also have Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech in their ranks.

While Thuram has operated as a striker this season, he still comes off the left like a winger.

Bayern Munich are no longer interested in Thuram too. They want a striker following the departure of Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona. They landed on the French international but have now changed their mind.

Die Rekordmeister will look at other options in the market, with Harry Kane as their prominent target.

With Bayern and Chelsea retracting their interest, Manchester United can move ahead in the race for Thuram.

The 25-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season. He can walk away and sign for any team on a free transfer. United are looking for a centre-forward and could use him.

The Premier League club is short of attacking options. They had to bring Wout Weghorst to help in the January transfer window, and he will leave this summer.

United’s other striker Anthony Martial has been battling with injury issues. Head coach Erik ten Hag has barely used him. He has accrued only 452 minutes of playing time this season. United desperately need striking reinforcement.

Thuram has scored 11 goals in the Bundesliga this season, assisting three more. He has scored three more goals and assisted another in the DFB-Pokal.

The former Guingamp forward was part of Didier Deschamps’ squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, helping his side reach the final.

Thuram will be one of the hottest properties in the summer transfer window. He is a potential bargain for most clubs with interest from the Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga.
