Sky Germany reports that Bayer Leverkusen has made contact with Liverpool regarding a potential move for defender Sepp van den Berg.
Leverkusen have always shown interest in the 22-year-old as they prepare for the potential departure of one of their defenders this summer but that was about it.
The fee for van den Berg is around €25m and Die Werkself will face competition from Brentford for the signature of the Dutch defender. The positive for Leverkusen is that it has previously been said that van den Berg wants to return to the Bundesliga.
Van den Berg has spent the past two seasons in Germany with varying success, his first season at Schalke was hampered by injury but his second season at Mainz, although he was involved in a relegation fight the whole time, was rather a successful spell as he played a key role in their survival.
The interest in van den Berg could open the door for Piero Hincapié or Odilon Kossounou to leave the BayArena with both being linked with a departure this summer.
