A headline member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona offered to take a cut on his wages, in a bid to aid the club’s financial woes this past summer.
That’s according to president Joan Laporta, who points towards Robert Lewandowski as the player in question.
Frontman Lewandowski is for his part of course fresh off a stellar start to the new campaign.
Looking completely rejuvenated under the watch of new head coach Hansi Flick, the Polish international has gotten back to doing what he does best – score goals.
All told, across four La Liga appearances in 2024/25 to date, Lewandowski has found the net on four occasions.
And yet, the 36-year-old’s commitment to the cause in Catalunya’s capital is not solely restricted to his efforts when on the pitch.
This comes with Lewandowski, as alluded to above, also eager to help out those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou from a monetary standpoint.
Speaking in a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, the aforementioned Joan Laporta was full of praise for Barcelona’s experienced striker, confirming that the former Bayern Munich man recently offered to ‘lower his contract to help the club’:
“Lewandowski, I’ve a special mention for him. He is a player committed to the club. When he heard that we had to make some efforts to reach the Fair Play to register players, he told us he could lower his contract in order to help the club.”
