Over the last 12-18 months, Vinicius Junior has been targeted on several occasions with racist abuse, a situation that reached boiling point back in May after another instance during Real Madrid’s match against Valencia at the Mestalla.
Depressingly, it appears that Vinicius was the target of another case of racist abuse against Sevilla on Saturday, with pictures emerging of a fan aiming monkey gestures in the direction of the 23-year-old.
After the match, Vinicius called again for changes to be made so that these incidents do not happen again – to him or anyone else. However, it appears that not everyone sympathises with the Brazilian, as Mikel Camps – who is Deputy Spokesperson of Barcelona’s Board of Directors – taking to X to criticise the Real Madrid forward.
“It is not racism, he deserves a slap for being a clown. What do these unnecessary and meaningless bicycle kicks represent in the centre of the field?”

😳 “No es racismo, se merece una colleja por payaso y vacilón, qué representan estas bicicletas innecesarias y sin sentido en el centro del campo”

The notion that Vinicius brings this racist abuse on himself is utterly ridiculous. No one deserves this kind of treatment, especially just because they are a football player that you don’t like. It is a sad, sad situation that Spanish football finds itself in.
