Barcelona president Joan Laporta has provided an update on the club’s transfer plans following reports that Gavi’s long-term injury would make the club bring in a replacement in the upcoming January transfer window.
The midfielder has been ruled out for the long-term with a knee injury, which he sustained while on international duty and this sparked speculation around the Catalan club looking for replacements during the winter transfer window.
As reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Laporta has spoken out about how the club plan to cope without Gavi for the rest of the league campaign.
“We’ve got a very competitive squad and Xavi has enough elements to continue having a good campaign,” he said.
“We trust the sporting director and the coach to make decisions regarding these matters.”
This further reinforces the previous statement from sporting director Deco, who dismissed suggestions that the club would like to replace the 19-year-old in January due to his skills being considered irreplaceable.
Barca are unlikely to sign a Gavi replacement due to their delicate financial situation, however, the Catalans are thought to be keen on bringing a move forward for Vitor Roque.
