FC Barcelona have held discussions with the representatives of Xavi Simons as the club explores a summer move for the Dutchman, according to SPORT.
Just six months after he was signed permanently by RB Leipzig following an initial loan spell, the 22-year-old is eyeing a move away from the Red Bull Arena this summer.
Simons, developed in Barcelona’s famed academy before moving to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, has enjoyed a productive spell at Leipzig and tallied 11 goals and 8 assists in 33 games last season.
Leipzig are expected to demand around €70–75 million for Simons, who is reportedly keen to return to Barcelona and has been for some time now.
“I am very grateful to Barcelona,” he said via Marca back in 2024.
“I will always be very fond of the club and the people. My family still lives there. It is a very important city for me.
“I have learned a lot during those years. I have experienced good and bad things. I have a lot of memories.”
While a move seems unlikely given Barcelona’s current financial constraints, Blaugrana sporting director Deco has recently made direct contact with Simons’ camp.
After missing out on the acquisition of Nico Williams, Barcelona are working on other attacking targets and are interested in a deal for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, albeit only on loan at the moment.
The La Liga champions also hold an interest in Luis Diaz, although they are unlikely to meet Liverpool’s asking price after the Reds rejected a €67.5 million offer from Bayern Munich.
