The latest word stemming from the media surrounding the future of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong points towards a potential falling out being on the cards, between club and player.
This comes amid fresh claims that the Dutchman’s sale will be taken into consideration in the summer.
De Jong is of course in the midst of what has proven a difficult campaign to date, ravaged by injury problems once more.
Though he remains a firm favourite of head coach Xavi, the Barcelona brass have in turn made their stance to FdJ and his entourage clear – renew his contract on more favourable terms, or risk being forced out.
The former Ajax man’s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2026, with De Jong owed a series of substantial back-payments, too, after agreeing to forego his wages to aid the club during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The problem, however, lies in the stance of the player himself.
Negotiations regarding a renewal have to date given rise to little progress, with De Jong having made clear that he has ‘no intention’ of departing.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who reiterate that the 26-year-old’s dream remains to succeed in the famed colours of the Blaugrana.
Something of a collision course, as a result, could well be on the cards between the Barcelona brass, and their midfield standout this summer.
