Napoli CEO Aurelio de Laurentiis has stated that if the pitches in Saudi Arabia aren’t good enough, he won’t be sending his team for the Supercoppa Italiana.
This time around, four teams will be playing the Supercoppa Italiana and it will take place in Saudi Arabia. The teams involved will be Napoli, Inter, Lazio and Fiorentina and the tournament starts off in January. It will be played at the Al Nassr Stadium, which is where the Spanish Super Cup was also played.
De Laurentiis, who has previously been vocal about multiple issues in Italian football, spoke about the tournament at the Lega Serie A Assembly yesterday. He delivered a very clear message about the tournament and he stated:
“If the pitches are not up to par, I won’t send Napoli”
Soon after De Laurentiis made this statement, it was reported that a delegation from the Partenopei will travel to Saudi Arabia to carry out an inspection of the pitches that the tournament will be played on.
