Altético Madrid’s medical staff detected a muscle injury in Felipe Augusto’s thigh, report Mundo Deportivo.
With Stefan Savić’s and José María Giménez’s return from the sidelines, many believed that would be the end of Los Colchoneros’ injury crisis in defence.
However, Felipe felt a discomfort in his thigh during Atléti’s final training session before their match against Sevilla, meaning he was not included in the match-day squad.
According to medical staff, the muscle injury will require physiotherapy sessions in addition to rehabilitation training. It is yet to be determined when the Brazilian will be deemed fit to play, but it is very unlikely that he will make an appearance in the Champions League on Tuesday against Brugge.
Felipe has only played two games this season, once against Bayer Leverkusen, the other against Real Madrid. Both games ended in defeats.
Atlético Madrid hope that the return of Stefan Savić and José María Giménez will help shore up the team’s defence.
