Atalanta’s struggles in front of goal are cause for concern

If there was one thing that Atalanta never had to worry about under Gian Piero Gasperini, it was that they always kept scoring goals. With their recent patch of form under Ivan Juric, it is evident that the same is not the case any longer. Atalanta have scored once in their last three games and have won none of them, a clear cause of concern.

Against Slavia Prague in the Champions League, the side from Bergamo accrued 2.59 xG for the game to end in a 0-0 draw. Previously against Lazio, it was the same result with 2.18 xG. Their last goal came against Como before the international break. Juric’s men have scored one goal from 6.17 xG accumulated in their last 3 games.

Star forward Ademola Lookman has been reintegrated after a dramatic summer but he’s yet to find the back of the net. Summer signing Nikola Krstovic has been in and out of the side. Kamaldeen Sulemana and Charles De Ketalaere have also doing goals hard to come by over the last month. Something needs to change fast otherwise Atalanta could tumble even further from the 9th position they currently occupy.
