Aston Villa are eyeing up a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovanni Lo Celso, according to the Daily Mail.
Lo Celso is currently on loan at Villarreal and has been an integral part of the Yellow Submarines since joining the Spanish club in January 2021.
The Argentine midfielder is familiar with Villa boss Unai Emery, having worked with him at Villarreal and Paris Saint-Germain.
Emery is fond of Lo Celso and is driving the move for a reunion. The Villans are now monitoring the player’s development at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Lo Celso has racked up 44 appearances for Villarreal, bagging two goals and three assists.
A return to the Premier League could be on the cards this summer, with Emery keen on a reunion and Tottenham reportedly willing to do business.
The player has fallen out of favour at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the club are looking to offload the former Real Betis loanee.
Villa are already making summer recruitment plans and are keen to bolster their squad following a hugely impressive campaign under Emery’s stewardship.
The Villans are on course to finish in the European places, having experienced a massive turnaround since Emery was appointed.
Emery’s side currently occupy the Europa Conference League spot but could yet earn a place in the Europa League, with Tottenham just two points ahead.
Lo Celso was one of the players discussed when Emery considered going to Newcastle United in 2021.
The 27-year-old impressed on Sunday against Sevilla switching between a false nine role and midfield, and could soon join Villa with Tottenham looking to overhaul their squad.
Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe is another player that has appeared on Villa’s radar, with the club keeping tabs on the midfielder ahead of a summer move.
