Aston Villa have joined Manchester United in the transfer race for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher.
Manager Unai Emery has been keen to sign Gallagher since he was at Chelsea.
United have shown an interest in the England international, but it is unclear whether they will move for him while their managerial situation remains unresolved.
Villa want to bolster their ranks as they look to secure Champions League football and compete on multiple fronts.
They are third in the Premier League standings, six points behind leaders Arsenal. Villa are the favourites to win the Europa League this season.
Gallagher could be an excellent acquisition for Villa. He is highly rated for his versatility, as he can operate as a defensive, central or attacking midfielder.
The 25-year-old also has a knack for making goal contributions, while his work rate and pressing ability are among his main strengths.
Gallagher joined Atletico from Chelsea for around £34 million in 2024.
He has been a key member of Diego Simeone’s team, scoring seven goals in 77 appearances across all competitions.
Gallagher is reportedly happy in Spain but wants to return to the Premier League to earn a place in England’s World Cup squad.
