Aston Villa could land £14m ‘great player’ in January window – GiveMeSport

Aston Villa would be signing a great player for the club if they were looking at bringing in Barcelona star Franck Kessie, says transfer insider Dean Jones.

Didn’t Kessie sign for Barcelona in the summer?

A title winner for AC Milan last season, Kessie played a vital role in helping Milan secure their first Serie A crown in 11 years. He scored six times in 31 appearances, including one against Sassuolo on the last weekend to confirm the club as champions.

However, the 25-year-old decided not to renew his contract at the San Siro and moved to Barcelona in the summer on a free transfer.

The Ivory Coast international signed a four-year deal with the Catalan club, with a £500 million release clause put into his contract. However, things haven’t gone as planned for Kessie in Spain.

The African star has only played seven times for Xavi’s side, starting only three of those games, and has struggled to hold down a first-team spot in Barcelona’s talented midfield.

What does Dean Jones say about a possible move to Aston Villa?

Kessie’s struggles at the Nou Camp have led to speculation of a move in January and Dean Jones things he’d be a great buy for Aston Villa.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Kessie played himself into brilliant form at AC Milan, he got the move to Barcelona but it obviously hasn’t worked out for him. If he’s willing to give up on that, if he’s willing to turn his back and look for a transfer, then this would be a great player to go for in January.”

Could Kessie end up at Villa Park in January?

Barcelona won’t be able to flex their transfer muscles in January without once again being clever with their outgoings, thanks to their current financial situation. So, Kessie’s struggles to adapt to life at the Nou Camp could present an opportunity for Aston Villa to make a move for the player.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Villa are one of two sides who are interested in the midfielder alongside Fulham, with a fee of around £14 million being suggested to be good enough to secure the player’s services.

Villa could move into pole position though, down to Barca’s interest in their defensive midfield star Douglas Luiz. The Brazilian almost joined Arsenal in August and has recently signed a new long-term deal with the club, but is someone who is on Barcelona’s radar and could see a swap deal being mooted between the two stars.

Kessie has also been linked with a move back to AC Milan by another report, although publicly his agent says that the Ivorian is happy in Spain and ready to fight for his place after the World Cup break.
