Aston Villa are reportedly willing to pay the termination clause in Monchi’s contract at Sevilla, with Sky Sports reporting that the Premier League club are indeed close to appointing the Sevilla sporting director as their new sporting director.
Sevilla managing directors, José Castro and José María del Nido Carrasco, were told by Monchi himself last week that he wants to leave the club, citing personal reasons. Just at that time it became known that Villa were very interested in acquiring the services of Sevilla’s sporting director, who would link up in Birmingham with Unai Emery. The pair worked together when the Basque coach was in charge of Sevilla.
On Monday, Villa announced that Christian Purslow is stepping down from his position as CEO and director of the club. He joined Villa in September 2018 shortly after NSWE acquired a controlling interest in the club.
