AS Monaco set to receive €3m in Gelson Martins’ move to Olympiacos

AS Monaco are set to receive €3m in the deal that will take Gelson Martins (28) to Olympiacos. The Portuguese winger has not featured for the Principality club this season.

Martins has been out of favour at Monaco for many months. Alongside former Monégasque Jean Lucas, he was omitted from first-team training towards the end of last season by Philippe Clement. Upon Adi Hütter’s arrival, the club had already made the decision to offload Martins, however, a suitor could not be found during the summer window, despite interest from the Middle East.

With Martins’ contract at Monaco expiring at the end of the season, the January window represents a final opportunity to garner a fee for the former Atletico Madrid winger. Martins is set to join Olympiacos and has already arrived in Greece ahead of the completion of the transfer. Foot Mercato report that the final details are being finalised ahead of the move, with Monaco set to receive a €3m fee – a considerable amount for a player soon to be out of contract.
