Arsenal are ‘in a good position’ to sign Youri Tielemans but ‘there is still no guarantee’ that the Leicester City star will head to the Emirates Stadium in January, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

Having spent close to £120million during the summer transfer window, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta will be given another chance to freshen up his squad at the turn of the year.

What’s the latest news involving Tielemans?

There is uncertainty over where Tielemans’ long-term future lies as his Leicester contract, which is worth £120,000-per-week, is due to expire next summer.

According to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Arsenal do not want to wait until the end of the season to acquire the central midfielder’s services and, as a result, could test Leicester’s resolve by lodging a bid in January.

The report suggests Arteta does not want to become embroiled in a battle for the 54-cap Belgium international’s signature next summer, while Italian giants Juventus are also keen.

It is understood that Tielemans is not interested in staying with Leicester beyond the end of the campaign and will wait until the World Cup before opening discussions with suitors.

Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly mulling over whether to head to the negotiating table during the early stages of 2023 as well.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Tielemans?

Jacobs believes Arsenal have plenty of options in the heart of midfield and, as a result, a January move for Tielemans is not a foregone conclusion.

However, the journalist feels the Gunners are in a strong negotiating position if they decide to test the waters with a proposal as the Leicester man will not need to be convinced to make the switch.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “I think there is still no guarantee that Arsenal are going to pull the trigger on Youri Tielemans, specifically in January, because they’re in exactly the same position as they were just a few months ago, where they have already stocked their midfield quite well.

“They’ve got a lot of depth and a lot of versatility. If you move for Tielemans in January, you’ve still got to pay something and that something may be deemed to not be value within the market.

“Arsenal are in a good position with Tielemans, in many respects, because they don’t have to do any real courting on the Tielemans side. The fact that they’re flying in the league will only solidify in Tielemans’ mind that it’s a good move for him.”

Would Tielemans be a good signing for Arsenal?

Tielemans showed the outstanding quality he possesses during Leicester’s 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, as he unleashed a stunning long-range strike to hand his current employers the lead.

Arsenal chief Arteta is keen for his side to control games and the 25-year-old has shown that he is capable of maintaining possession by chalking up a pass accuracy of 92 per cent in his own half of the pitch, ahead of facing Manchester City on Saturday, this season.

Tielemans has been hailed as ‘one of Europe’s top midfielders’ by Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, while he has also clinched the FA Cup and Community Shield since arriving at the King Power Stadium, so he would be an astute signing for Arsenal.
