Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney open to Newcastle United move ahead of summer

Newcastle United are eyeing a summer move for Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney, reports the Mirror.

The Scotland international defender has become increasingly frustrated at his lack of regular game time at the north London club.

Tierney has started just four Premier League games for the Gunners this term.

The 25-year-old has found himself behind summer arrival Oleksandr Zinchenko in manager Mikel Arteta’s pecking order.

Tierney is open to leaving the league leaders for Newcastle as he desires to see regular action.

The former Celtic star joined the Gunners in 2019 for £25 million.

He was a regular in the team’s starting XI in his second and third seasons at the Emirates.

The Magpies could do with a player like Tierney in their squad. They dream of challenging for the title next season and want big-name reinforcements in the summer.

Dan Burn has played at left-back for Eddie Howe’s side in recent games.

However, he is more suited in central defence and is without an assist or goal in 23 league games.

Tierney has three league goals and seven assists as an Arsenal player.

He can also play as a centre-back and right-back, and such versatility would come in handy for Newcastle.

He was the best left-back in the Scottish Premiership while at Celtic.

The Scot won three PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year awards and helped Celtic win three domestic trebles in a row.

The Magpies need such a serial winner in their squad as they eye silverware.

Arsenal could have reservations about letting Tierney leave. However, a quality offer from Newcastle and the player’s willingness to move on could force their hands.
