An Andalusian derby kicks things off on Saturday but this game is primarily all about points in the race for survival. Almeria will be hoping for more joy at the Power Horse Stadium where they have been strong throughout the majority of this campaign.

However their inability to pick up points away means they really have little option but to win games like this. They’ve lost 5 of their last 6 overall with the only exception being a surprise 1-0 win over leaders Barcelona here earlier this month. Almeria are 2nd bottom as a result and there’s a bit of pressure once more on Rubi.

He can take confidence from his team’s ability to win every home match against current bottom half opposition so far this season. His players have frequently dug in and got a home result when it has been needed most. Therefore this is not an unfamiliar scenario for Almeria and with the likes of Elche, Valencia and Real Valladolid also all still to visit this ground, there are opportunities for them to attain the kind of points return that may keep them up.

Cadiz are 2 points better off but they will still be fuming after their controversial and ill-tempered 2-2 draw with fellow strugglers Getafe last time out. It felt like a great opportunity for Cadiz to put a bit of distance between themselves and the relegation zone, particularly when they led 2-1 with their opponents reduced to 10 men but Getafe’s 116th minute equaliser and the angry scenes that followed could end up having serious consequences for their prospects of survival.

Not only did it result in a 3-point swing in the favour of one of their primary relegation rivals, but Cadiz ended up with a host of players facing disciplinary action. They are missing three to suspension here, most notably keeper Conan Ledesma who starts a 4 game ban. He hasn’t missed a Cadiz league game this season and didn’t miss one last so it’s a big void that back-up keeper David Gil will need to fill.
