According to RMC Sport, Alexis Sánchez underwent an MRI scan on Sunday morning following his replacement at halftime of the match Lens-Marseille (2-1) Saturday. The results of the examinations are reportedly reassuring for the Olympiens.
The 34-year-old Chilean striker started the game at Bollaert and even had an early goal ruled out by VAR. He felt a discomfort behind the thigh during the first half of the match.
Sánchez feared that the minor discomfort could turn into a more serious injury if he continued to play at such a high intensity. Around the 20th minute Sánchez informed his coach, Igor Tudor, of his condition, which led to the decision to replace him with Portuguese striker Vitinha at halftime.
Following the defeat against Lens, Marseille has dropped from second to third place in the championship. Igor Tudor’s side will try to bounce back in their next game at the Velodrome against Angers, Ligue 1’s bottom club, next week.
