This past weekend at UFC 313, Alex Pereira lost his UFC light heavyweight title via unanimous decision to Magomed Ankalaev. The Brazilian’s performance was somewhat uncharacteristic compared to what we have seen from him typically in the UFC, as he wasn’t aggressive at all and extremely inactive in the striking department, which is something that many MMA fans thought they would never say about ‘Poatan.’
Despite being defeated pretty conclusively, the one saving grace for Pereira is that although he was dominated at times during the fight, he didn’t take that much damage, which means that there is a good chance he can stick to the very active schedule he has adopted over the last few years when he can fight up to four times a year. It seems he plans on sticking to that schedule as well, as just days after losing his belt, the Brazilian has revealed that he is already in talks for his next fight.

Alex Pereira Already In Talks For Rematch vs Magomed Ankalaev
Despite losing his UFC light heavyweight title just days ago, ‘Poatan’ is already in talks for his Octagon return
At the UFC 313 post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White made it pretty clear that a rematch between Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira was going to be next, however, the rematch may be happening a lot sooner than fans may have expected. In a newly released video on his YouTube channel, ‘Poatan’ revealed that he is already in talks with the UFC for his rematch against the big Russian.
Pereira said the following on his YouTube channel:
“We’re already in talks (for a rematch because of) everything I’ve done and the way the fight went. Many people contested (the decision) and were in doubt. I haven’t watched the fight yet. I’ll watch to have my opinion, (because) it’s hard to have an idea when you’re in there.”
Despite Pereira’s performance at UFC 313 being very flat and uninspiring, it can only be a good thing for him that the UFC is targeting booking the rematch very soon, as he has had his best results inside the Octagon, fighting very regularly, whereas his opponent, Ankalaev, has struggled to remain active over the last few years.
Pereira and the UFC are clearly keen on booking the rematch soon, which seemingly leaves the ball in Ankalaev’s court, but it seems there will be no issues convincing him to fight as he has already revealed he is ready to fight in a recent post on X.
Ankalaev posted the following to X:
“I’m ready for round 6, but this time will not go for full distance, let’s go guys.”
