It’s been quite the week for Sadio Mané who’s capped it off by beating Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Chelsea’s Édouard Mendy to claim this prestigious award. Bayern touched down in the United States earlier this week as Mané played in a friendly against D.C. United on Wednesday. Shortly after the contest, the Senegalese star flew to Morocco in order to receive this award as Africa’s best footballer.
Mané put away 23 goals and added 5 assists for Liverpool last season as they won the League and FA Cups, while finishing 2nd in both the Champions League and the Premier League. Senegal also beat Egypt to win the Africa Cup of Nations in Mané’s biggest win with the national team thus far.

The 30-year-old will return to Germany instead of rejoining the club in the United States to recover before the start of the campaign. It’s clear that Mané’s move to Bavaria will have reverberations on and off the pitch, as he once again can stake the claim as the best player in Africa.
