Danish center back Frederik Winther is on the move yet again. After two loan-outs to clubs in his native country, the FC Augsburg defender will now head to Portugal on a six-month arrangement. The Fuggerstädter had been seeking a place to park Winther after another season during which he could not crack the first team. The 23-year-old made just one appearance for the FCA this season, starting in the team’s ill-fated opening round Pokal loss.
Winther scored one golfer Augsburg in the opening round of the 2021/22 Pokal. He’s five league appearances to add to his two deployments in Germany’s domestic cup. Portuguese club GD Estoril Praia gave the Danish youth international a heavy roll-out, suggesting that they plan to use him in their fight to avoid relegation from the Portuguese Primera.
After loaning out left-back David Colina to Winther’s country last week, Augsburg have now shed seven players in the current January transfer window. The lone incoming transfer, Kristijan Jakic, produced a very poor debut against Bayern on Sunday. The Eintracht Frankfurt loanee found himself directly culpable on two of Bayern’s three goals in the loss.
