Seaone rues “unsatisfactory result” while Terzic and Kehl praise BVB “comeback qualities”

The respective trainers of Germany’s top-flight “Borussia” clubs obviously shared different sentiments in their post-match interviews following Saturday’s results. 

After Borussia Dortmund completed a 3-2 comeback win over their fellow Westphalian club with a Prussian-inspired name on Saturday afternoon, Borussia Mönchengladbach trainer Gerardo Seoane could only lament how side let a 2-0 lead slip away. The BMG head-coach also found himself expressing disappointment that substitute Christoph Kramer missed a fabulous chance to equalize late in the match.

“We had a better grip on the game and even had a chance to punch back late,” Seoane told his Sky Germany interviewer afterwards, “We have to work on not letting leads slip away from us. All-in-all, it was a good game from us. In the end, however, the result is not satisfactory.”

The mood was obviously different in the Dortmund camp. BVB trainer Edin Terzic and club sporting director Sebastian Kehl had plenty of plaudits for their team after the comeback victory. Kehl didn’t spare the team criticism when discussing the first two Gladbach goals, but ultimately credited the squad for their spirit in fighting back.

“When we conceded goals, we weren’t good in covering space, tackling, and retaining possession,” Kehl noted, “We can and must do better. We nevertheless demonstrated comeback qualities. That’s emblematic of the team this season.”

“Considering the phase we were coming from, it’s important that we proved that the game isn’t over when we fall behind,” Terzic added, “I’m very pleased with the morale, energy, and belief the team showed on the pitch. Huge compliments.”
