Premier League side Newcastle United are threatening to launch a lawsuit against Milan in the illegal betting case involving Sandro Tonali.
The midfielder had joined Newcastle from Milan in a big-money move in the summer and he is expected to be handed a 10-month long suspension because of his involvement in the illegal betting saga, which saw him bet on Milan games during his time at the Rossoneri.
Corriere dello Sport (via TMW) report that Tonali’s plea deal and punishment was all but defined until Newcastle threatened Milan with a multi-million dollar lawsuit. The Magpies are angry that their new signing will be suspended for the rest of the season
Tonali’s salary will be suspended as soon as the ban comes into action and this case is in stark contrast to what happened in Nicolo Fagioli’s case, as Juventus will hand the midfielder his wages and allow him to use their training facilities. Tonali could be essentially abandoned by Newcastle in the most delicate period of his career, with the plea deal expected to be formally decided later today.
